The Discovery Program is responsible for the planning and implementation of an individual education plan for students with special needs. This program supports the regular education classroom by assisting students with the necessary strategies in the areas of Reading/Language Arts and Math.
Once students are recommended for the program by the classroom teacher, the Discovery Teacher administers an assessment to determine areas of weakness. Upon completion and evaluation of the assessment by the Discovery Teacher, a conference takes place involving DGCS Staff and parents. This conference determines the best possible plan for the students in cooperation with the classroom teacher.
Typically, students are serviced 3-5 times per week for approximately 30-60 minutes.
The Discovery Program is offered to students in Kindergarten through Eighth grade.
