Fifth Grade

Growing in Independence

A note from fifth grade teacher, Paula Anderson

As fifth graders stretch their academic muscles, they also learn about being independent in their classroom and in their personal choices. I aim to provide a loving and structured environment in which my students can practice their independent learning skills with a focus on making wise choices academically, personally, and spiritually.

As a class, we emphasize the importance of teamwork, especially when it comes to treating fellow students with gentleness, kindness, and empathy. Our goal is to create a classroom environment where we can work both independently and respectfully in groups.

Throughout the school year, we will build our research skills through multiple projects across all subjects like Math, Language Arts, Science, and History.  Specifically, our projects include the Reading Fair, Science Labs, Writing Workshops, Book Parties, Spiritual Heroes Project, 5-Paragraph Research Project, Speeches and Presentations, Tower of Books Challenge, and more.  These experiential learning projects help us stretch our own abilities, explore the world of God’s creation and understand our own history.

Fifth graders also participate in Computer Science, Spanish, Physical Education, Art, and Music, including Beginning Band.

Whether we are doing research, engaged in group projects or working independently, we are always a team who supports and builds each other up.
