Preschool
Preschool at DGCS is Christ Centered
Our curriculum is designed to help children learn how to learn. The school day centers around routine where children are taught the importance of respecting one another and the world around them. We meet children where they are at and then lovingly challenge them to grow in self-control, skills and in their relationship with Jesus.
The Bible curriculum focuses on laying the foundation for the Christian way of life. Each week we will learn a new Bible story and Bible verse. Children will learn Bible stories in various ways allowing them to experience the fullness of the love God has for them through Jesus Christ. Families will have a children’s Bible at home so that we can partner with parents as we “train up a child in the way they should go and when they are old, they will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Weekly themes allow the children to explore the wonders of God’s creation. Academic skills are taught through whole group, small group and individual instruction as well as exploration and investigation of classroom manipulatives and materials, creative art, building materials and cooperative play.
The children learn reading and math skills such as letter and number recognition, letter and number formation and letter sounds in a variety of ways at a developmentally appropriate level. Handwriting Without Tears, ACSI Numbers and Letters, ACSI Count and Write, letter journals, games and stories are a sampling of the day’s activities.
