Eighth Grade

Preparing Eagles for Flight
A note from Junior High teachers, Judy Newhall, Pat Quinn, Leah Slagle, and Isaac Soriano
This year of education and spiritual growth for your child is perhaps the most critical thus far. Your student must be ready academically and personally for the challenges that high school – and a totally new environment – will present. We see that opportunity as a blessing! We are keenly focused ensuring their learning skills and strengthening their character.
As an eighth grade class, we focus our year around Christ and how we should live our lives in response to his sacrifice; eighth graders prepare spiritually, academically, and personally for the next steps in their lives as young adults!
Our Algebra class covers rational equations, quadratic equations, and functions. As a class, we explore a multitude of scientific disciplines, including astronomy, geology, and weather. Students investigate about God’s guiding hand in American history and the Civil War, bringing history to life in the classroom through readings, discussions, and engaging projects. Students continue their study of classic literature, using a Christian perspective to understand themes like compassion v. exploitation, family, and human relationships in the novels they read.
We focus on hands-on experiences that bring core subjects to life. We engage the students in learning beyond the walls of classroom through our annual science fair, exciting field trips to destinations like the Argonne National Laboratory. They participate in Service Projects like Feed My Starving Children and Operation Christmas Child. These projects and more culminate in the eighth-grade trip.
Eighth graders participate weekly in Computer Science, Spanish, Physical Education, Art, and Music — each is invited to participate in Band.
And throughout all of our efforts each academic year, we prepare each student spiritually, academically, and personally for the coming challenge of high school and young adulthood.
